HIGHLIGHTs - 1st joint SiC eAxle with SAIC Volkswagen

LEADRIVE and SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. first jointly developed new 3-in-1 SiC E-axle system based upon the latest silicon carbide (SiC) technology has been validated and was recently presented on the Volkwagen “IVET Technical Innovation Conference”. The 3-in-1 SiC E-Axle provides significant performance gains compared to IGBT based motor controllers.

The LEADRIVE SiC motor control unit (inverter) is equipped with ROHM Semiconductor’s latest generation silicon carbide semiconductor chips and achieves up to 99.9% efficiency. Especially at low load operation, the SiC technology provides significant efficiency gains. By that battery energy can be saved and the vehicle mileage range of the Volkswagen ID.4X Model can be increased by at least 4.5%. Further key highlights are the reduced weight and volume of the inverter which leads to a 12.4% increase in power density. This allows highest degrees of a compact SiC eAxle system design.

The system design stands out by providing high reliability and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) according to VW TL81000 Class 5, shaft current optimization and vehicle vibration reliability.

We are looking forward to a further successful cooperation!
